About the Trainers

C. Araceli Avila is an independent educational consultant and part of the SIOP® National Faculty.  She is co-author of Navigating the ELPS in the Math Classroom, author of Helping Math Teachers Implement the ELPS and contributing author for The SIOP® Model for Teaching Mathematics to English Learners.  Areas of training expertise include K-12 mathematics education, the SIOP® model, ELPS, sheltered instruction strategies, academic vocabulary development, instructional coaching, migrant education and adult basic education. She is a former ESC, Region 20 educational specialist and secondary math teacher. She is a certified Texas school counselor and TEXTEAMS trainer.

 

Amy Serda-King is an independent educational consultant and an adjunct university professor at St. Mary’s University. She is the author of Helping Math Teachers Implement the ELPS.  She delivers professional development in the areas of mathematics, the SIOP® model, effective vocabulary instruction, cooperative learning, and paraprofessional training.  She is currently part of the SIOP National Faculty, and she is a certified Texas Principal and TEXTEAMS Leader.
